Hi Theresa,

Welcome to Paperback Writer.

PBW: Would you share with us how you came up with the idea for your book?

Theresa Chaze: After talking and working with other writers, I wanted to share what I learned in both though the educational and practical experience. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with an emphasis on writing from Michigan State University. Many writers don’t have the time, resources or desire to get the formal education; I am willing to share what I have learned, making the writing experience not only easier but also more profitable for them. In addition, I have learned a great deal about the publishing industry in the last five years; I wanted to help other authors avoid the scams I was caught by and make their publishing experience more positive.

PBW: Was it a light bulb moment or something that you thought about for a very long time?

Theresa Chaze: I do marketing for myself and several other authors. It’s when I realized that my experience and knowledge could not only help them be better writers, but also make their writing more successful. I had been writing articles with writing tips for my blog. In the ebook, they are expanded to include more resources and details. I have included writing tips, publishing details and marketing information.

PBW: How did you come up with the title?

Theresa Chaze: From Blank Page to Book Shelves–How to Successful Write and Market Your Book is not only descriptive of the content, but also is SEO relevant.

PBW: How did you find an agent and publisher?

Theresa Chaze: I didn’t use an agent. Valkyrie Publishing is my own house. At this point, I only publish my own print and ebooks; however, I act as a publishing consultant and publicist. Most authors don’t realize that they can get the book not only in print but listed with a distributor for about 200.00. What I do is prepare the book for the printer and create a cover. The average cost for my services is about 100.00.

PBW: Who reads you work in progress?

Theresa Chaze: I have several friends who check for typos and give me feed back. They aren’t professional editors, just avid readers and wise women.

PBW: How long did it take you to complete the first draft?

Theresa Chaze: It took about two months to pull the articles together and add to them.

PBW: How long did it take from start to publication?

Theresa Chaze: Once I had the information together, it took about three weeks to edit and revise. However typesetting and creating the cover only took about two days. Most of that time was deciding what I want the cover to look like. I wanted it to be unique enough to grab attention while still being representative of the ebook.

PBW: Do you have any advice for new authors?

Theresa Chaze: Have faith in yourself and keep working. You can be the next best selling author, but you need to know not only how to make your characters and plots uniquely exciting, but how to bring it to the market in such a way that it will gain the attention of your target market.

You can buy my book in two places. It is part of the Amazon Kindle program. However, if you buy it off my site at www.theresachaze.com you will also receive a 345 page listing of over 2000 independent bookstores, which includes their contact information and basic description.
