Ashley’s Unforgettable Summer – author interview – Grace Reddick

Paperback Writer is pleased to welcome author Grace Reddick, author of Ashely’s Unforgettable Summer.

About the Book:

Ashley was beginning to question herself. Had she made the right decision by bringing this chimpanzee home? Tina seemed to be three steps ahead of Ashley and her best friend Rylee. Tina was obviously out of control. Just how far would she go? Only time would tell.

Review:

Ashley’s Unforgettable Summer
by Grace Reddick is an excellent children’sbook. Ashley, the main character, captures your attention with her unpredictable chimpanzee, Tina. The colorful illustrations blend in well with the story that is being told.

Precocious Ashley and her chimpanzee are faced with one intriguing dilemma after another. These “little” dilemmas become even more amusing as the story reaches its apex. The book is well written, as it shifts from chapter to chapter.

Hi Grace,

Welcome to Paperback Writer

Will you share with us how you came up with the idea for this book?

I have always been fascinated by monkeys. especially after I was surprised with one of my own. I submitted an essay, just for the fun of it, to be written in a way to appeal to children. The reply was overwhelming. I realized that creating a story was not that difficult. So that’s exactly what I did, create, that was the easy part.

Do you plan your stories first with an outline or does it come to you as write it?

It just comes to me

Do you know the end of the story at the beginning?

Not really, I create as I go.

Do you have a process for developing your characters?

Ashley and Rylee are my granddaughters.

It is said that authors write themselves into their characters. Is there any part of you in your characters and what they would be?

No, it really isn’t. I simply have ideas and go with it.

What is your most favorite part about this book?

That’s difficult to say. I don’t believe there is a favorite. It continues to move, and that’s what I like.

When in the process of writing your book did you begin to look for a publisher?

I was contacted by Xlibris, after they had viewed my profile on Yahoo, and chose to go with them.

What struggles have you had on the road to being published?

Learning the trade. I’ve had to learn along the way. It was a bit frustrating at times, but I was determined to make it work.

What has been the best part about being published?

Achieving what I had set out to do. To be recognized as a published author.

What do you want readers to remember and carry with them after reading your novel?

The laughter it brings to children, regardless of the age and the connection between a best friend and a pet.

Do you have plans to write another book?

I am in the process of writing another book.

Would you care to share with us how the virtual book tour experience with Pump Up Your Book Promotion has been for you?

Wow! I’ve never known anything like this. It takes book promoting to the highest level. Dorothy Thompson is simply the greatest.

Where can readers find a copy of your book?

My book can only be purchased online at Barnes and Noble, Borders, Amazon, Xlibris or through my website, which has a link to my publisher.

Do you have a website for readers to go to?

Yes I do.  http://www.grace4books.com
