About the Book:

Organic for Health

will convince you to avoid conventionally grown foods laden with the biggest offenders, and more importantly, to fill your body with the clean, potent vitamins and minerals in organic foods that truly honor your health.
“Sandy Powers has created the type of book that will change lives. She approaches the subject matter from a basic, introductory standpoint. This allows any reader to ease into the idea of major dietary changes, progressing at a comfortable pace. If there was any doubt the US government allows profit to prevail over general well-being, Organic for Health will eliminate that doubt.”

Hi , Sandy Powers,

Welcome to Paperback Writer.

Thanks, I am happy to be here.

Would you share with us how you came up with the idea for your book?

I was diagnosed with breast cancer and liver problems.  After my mastectomy, I was unable to undergo any further cancer treatment because of my unhealthy liver.  After a year of testing that showed no liver improvement, I knew I had to take control.  I was not idle during this year.  Every day was spent in extensive research.  I read hundreds of medical journals, poured through hundreds of medical studies, and read dozens of books on health and soil depletion.  I shifted through piles of notes and developed a plan of action.  I became my own guinea pig.  I knew I had to share this informati on; “Organic for Health” was born.

Was it a light bulb moment or something that you thought about for a very long time?

Neither.  It was a gradual progression.

How did you come up with the title?

“Organic for Health” was the only title that came to me.  These three words are the essence of my last three years.

How did you find an agent and publisher?

I began searching for an agent and traditional publisher but the process seemed too lengthy.  I have a sense of urgency about life so I was too impatient for the snail pace.  I decided to publish with a Print On Demand Publisher.   It was much faster—6 months.

Who reads you work in progress?

I am lucky to have two very literate daughters and a willing husband.  What more could I ask for?  Of course, the editors of iUniverse, the publishing company, read and re-read and I wrote and re-wrote.

Who made a difference in the book’s quality?

My daughters understood what I wanted to say.  I wanted an introduction to organic eating, easy to understand statistics, a guide, and information that could be digested in one sitting.  In other words, a book anyone could read and use and at an affordable price.  My daughters made the difference.

How long did it take you to complete the first draft?

It took me 6 months to complete the first draft of “Organic for Health.”

How long did it take from start to publication?

From beginning the research, to writing the drafts, to publishing took 2 years.

Do you have any advice for new authors?

Write about what is important to you.  Never mind the rest.

Thank you, Sandy Powers, for stopping by Paperback Writer on your virtual book tour. I wish you continued success through the rest of you tour.

And, thank you for having me.  It’s been fun.

  1. Thank you for hosting my tour. I am happy to announce “Organic for Health” is the winner in the Health Category of the National 2008 Beach Book Festival held recently in California.
    Good Health!

  2. What an inspiring interview – its great to read that her daughters played such an important role in the production of the book. We need more of this type of work out there – organic, locally grown food is key to not only solving our own health problems, but also many of the ills impacting the earth in general. Thanks for posting this interview.
