“To be an atheist is to play Russian roulette with all the chambers loaded…”

“An atheist just can’t win. Of course, he feels and acts like a big player, until the trigger is pulled. The issue isn’t the existence of God. If he is wrong and there is a Creator, then he was wrong. He gambled and he lost. No big deal. The real gamble is that there’s no Hell. That’s what makes the player sweat, just a little. “What if…?”

In this entertaining and enlightening new book, Pastor Ray Comfort, author of the million-selling The Atheist Test, “talks to the atheists” and reveals not just the weakness of their arguments but the solid foundation upon which the Christian stands.

Few books take the time to address the atheist’s conscience. This book not only gives empirical evidence for the existence of God, it shows atheists that they desperately need His forgiveness. Using a lively Q&A format, featuring actual questions from atheists sent to Pastor Comfort’s blog at Atheist Central, You Can Lead An Atheist to Evidence, But You Can’t Make Him Think shows that God’s existence can be proven, and that anyone can do it!

Hi Ray,

Welcome to Paperback Writer.

Would you share with us how you came up with the idea for your book?

I’m a Christian. I love God, and I also love atheists. I had dinner with 40 of them (at their request) early in 2008 and was treated with respect. I was flown across the country by American Atheists, Inc., to be a platform speaker at their 2001 Annual Convention. I was treated with respect there also. I have a blog called “Atheist Central” and it daily attracts a mass of atheists. Most of them are nice folks, who obey the rules that say “God” must have a capital “G.”
However, there are good and bad atheists, and in recent years we have seen an increase of bad atheists. These radicals go out of their way to try and censor the Bibles from being given to school children, and who sue Rick Warren because he was asked to pray at the Presidential Inauguration, or protest the presence of a nativity scene. Their agenda isn’t to promote atheism. It is the God-given right of every American to be an atheist if that’s what he chooses. But the new atheist’s agenda is to undermine the rights of those who have the freedom to worship the God who gave them life and liberty.
I wrote this book for the many fence-sitters who have been hoodwinked into thinking that a belief in God is just some sort of blind faith. There is a massive amount of credible evidence that proves God exists. There’s creation. You can’t have a creation without a Creator. It is scientifically impossible. That should be enough for us, but there is much more evidence. However, this will only be seen as evidence by those who have the ability to think. That’s why I called the book, You Can Lead a Atheist to Evidence But You Can’t Make Him Think.

Was it a light bulb moment or something that you thought about for a very long time?
I thought about it for some time, and suddenly the light came on. However, I am continually thinking about how to reach the unconverted.

How did you come up with the title?
It came to me like the flash of a 150 watt bulb.

How did you find an agent and publisher?
I approached World Net Daily with a query email.

Who reads your work in progress?
My wife.

Who made a difference in the book’s quality?
My editor and graphic artist helped greatly.

How long did it take you to complete the first draft?
About four months.

How long did it take from start to publication?
About six months.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never let perfectionism hold you back from writing. It is a subtle killer, and it’s probably rooted in pride. If I get a thought, I write like there is no tomorrow, and one thought then leads to another. The first draft of what I have then written is usually a mess. I wouldn’t let my dog read it. So I go back and refine it. I become an editor with the objectivity of a surgeon’s scalpel. If the writing doesn’t flow, I cut the offending portion out no matter how much I like it. Or to mix metaphors, it’s an egg-shell in the omelet. Then I go back and refine what I have refined. Then I refine it again. I leave it for a while, and see if you can guess what I do next. Yep. I refine it. I am aiming at perfection (in my mind) at the end, not at the beginning. If you try and make the first page perfect, you may never get passed it.

Thank you, Ray for stopping by Paperback Writer on your virtual book tour. I wish you continued success through the rest of you tour.

  1. Good early morning 12:51am. I am exhausted but I finally found this wonderful appropriate site and I am just hoping it is okay I write a little letter here and you might respond. There is a man, about 56 approximately, an Irishman in Ireland – he and I and his sister were little playmates. Their family immigrated back to Ireland from America when we were little children. We met again somewhere around the 30 year mark (?) I NEVER knew it but he chose to be an ATHIEST. We have been writing every day for nearly three years when he told me close to the beginning and I was horrified! Did a quick read on some things and became more horrified and wanted to run really fast away from a nice friendship (only). I have witnessed to him. He said he knew right away I was a Christian. He ignores completely! everything that I have sent or said…not one word in reply…like I never sent it. Amazing. He NEVER says anything about being ATHIEST other than he did not not choose God but that he just never saw God, even being raised in a Christian church, reciting bible verses…nothing ever went to his heart. He doesn’t hate God, he just doesn’t believe in God. Once when I spoke of sin his reaction did very much surprise me…it angered him. Not much time have I spent with him in person but he is most plesant in person and my parents just came back from a visit with his family. He has experienced the death of his wife 12 years ago from cancer, the death of a beloved aunt and the death of his father in succession. He suffers from depression. If you have a prayer team, please ask God to break all bondages that keep him from seeing God, knowing and loving him. I am uncertain about sending a book or literature. Christians do that; atheists have not need…I do not wish to break a friendship but I would send it if it were God’s will. Could someone help me out a bit with this. I am at I’d be most willing to call for a conversation with a most knowledgable person on this topic. I never thought I’d find myself loving an Athiest…but here I am…the Agape love…wanting him to know the One he does not know exhists!

Lots of wonderment, excitement, and a serious sense of trusting God because there is nothing in me that can bring this man to Christ but the Holy Spirit of the Living God within me leading me…that skill, and for that obedience I ask your prayers and wisdom – I am not the brightest at all of this but I am certain my heart belongs to the Lord and I want to serve Him.

Patricia 🙂 Oh, My! Roland (Roly – that is my friends name)
