About the Book:
Alphatudes reveals the unexpected and simple secret of living a joyful life – gratitude. In a world obsessed with negativity, we must deliberately choose to focus on the positive. The good news is that the homework is already done!
Alphatudes utilizes our earliest grade school victory—the ABCs— to achieve an even greater victory: a sustainable shift in your thinking that leads to contentment, optimism and peace of mind. An alphatude is defined as: a person, place or thing for which one alphabetically expresses gratitude.
Filled with vibrant illustrations, Alphatudes takes you on an inspiring 26-step journey where you’ll discover how to: heighten your awareness of life’s daily gifts; attract opportunities with a positive mind-set; find blessings in difficult situations; and free yourself from worry, negativity and resentment.
Legendary recording artist Olivia Newton-John has graciously provided a free download of her beautiful song, “Grace and Gratitude”, with purchase of this extraordinary book.
Hi Michele Wahlder,
Welcome to Paperback Writer.
Thank you having me.
Q: Would you share with us how you came up with the idea for your book?
A: The idea for an alphabet of gratitude, “alphatudes” came to me in a most unlikely way. I wasn’t feeling grateful at all. In fact, I had been going through a period of disrupted sleep and was quite cranky over my inability to sleep soundly. I had tried many different techniques, but none had worked. On one particular night, while lying in bed, the concept of gratitude entered my thoughts. I spontaneously started thinking of things I was grateful for using the structure of the alphabet –it was easy and fun! Counting my blessings instead of counting burdens or sheep turned out to be a habit that had begun to affect my outlook on life in a positive way. I wanted to share it.
Q: Was it a light bulb moment or something that you thought about for a very long time?
A: It was more of a light bulb moment that was truly divinely given to me.
Q: How did you come up with the title?
A: Since I was using the alphabet as a structure for a gratitude practice, it just seemed logical to combine the “alpha’ from alphabet and the “tude” from gratitude into one word – Alphatudes. The book provides 26 spiritual solutions to help individuals develop a perspective of gratitude to better cope with the challenges of life, so the tag was easy, 26 Solutions for Life’s Little Challenges.
Q: How did you find an agent and publisher?
A: I went to the Book Expo of America in New York City to shop for a publisher. I had publishers take interest, but when I heard the process of getting to publication would take 2 years or longer, I was inpatient to share the concept and decided to publish the book through my own publishing company, Life Possibilities Publishing.
Q: Who reads your work in progress?
A: My fiancé and a close friend read some of my writing. Actually, my “bonus” daughter has a great eye and she helped me critique and alter many of the illustrations.
Q: Who made a difference in the book’s quality?
A: The book’s marketing/sales/pr consultant Bethany Brown of The Cadence Group has had a tremendous influence on the quality of the book and the great exposure we have received. Gwyn Snider of GKS Creative did a beautiful work with the book cover, layout, illustrations and website. She has great talent.
Q: How long did it take you to complete the first draft?
A: Approximately, a year.
Q: How long did it take from start to publication?
A: Two years.
Q: Do you have any advice for new authors?
A: Work with a subject that inspires you to push through the challenges that inevitably come up on the way to publication.
Thank you, Michele, for stopping by Paperback Writer on your virtual book tour. I wish you continued success through the rest of you tour.
