ABOUT A CHANCE TO SAY YES:
In Search of a Safe Harbor…
Finally, after years of struggle, Heston Demming is at the peak of his acting career—a Hollywood heartthrob, his handsome face on every tabloid. When he comes home to Naples, Florida, his opulent lifestyle is declaration of victory over the poverty and hardship of his youth. But his triumphant return is a sham, a lie he’s told himself to keep from facing the truth.
The truth is, his life is falling apart. It’s as though he is standing on the beach in the edge of the surf, each wave washing more sand from beneath his feet. And, with nothing solid to hang onto, he is going down.
Then one “real” person comes back into his life, Poppy Talbot. The woman left behind in his quest for money and fame. Poppy still has the same sweetness as she did when they were love-struck teenagers. She could save him—if he could get her to forgive the past and win her trust…
In Search of Escape…
All the years Heston was away, Poppy Talbot dreamed of seeing him again. And had vivid nightmares about it. About the consequences. Poppy has a long-kept secret—a soul-deep secret. One, which, if she lets Heston back into her life, is certain to rip them apart…
Set in sophisticated, tropical Naples, Florida. A Chance to Say Yes takes you inside the volatile private life of the exclusive beachfront community’s most celebrated son.
BOOK REVIEW BY REBECCA CAMARENA:
Sometimes, the person we need the most is right under our nose and we refuse to see them. In the novel by Tina Murray, A Chance to Say Yes takes you on a suspenseful romantic journey of one of Hollywood’s top actors as he tries to find the things in his life that give him meaning. Heston Demming has come home to his boyhood town of Naples, Florida to right the wrongs in his life and make a better life for himself.
In a story that Murray supplies us with plenty of characters we see with plenty of greed, deception, love interests, cheating spouses, jealousy revengefulness and much more.
Demming an alcoholic follows the advice of his sponsor to return to his home town and make amends to all those people he wronged in his lifetime. It might be easier said than done, but try Heston does and walks into some raw human emotions from his first wife and ex-lover. Quite a few ruthless people want nothing more than a piece of the home town star, and to blame him for all the unfortunate events in their lives. Even though the character of Heston is to right all the wrongs he committed, Murray makes you feel compassion for him as the story develops even though at the beginning of the novel his motives beg, the questions from the reader, “Just what does he think he is doing?”
Poppy Talbot, the woman left behind in Heston’s quest for money and fame dreams of the day when he would return, however, now that her wish has come true she is less than enthusiastic as Heston returns home. She has a twenty year old secret that she would prefer to take to the grave for fear of tearing their lives apart if the secret is revealed.
Murray writes in a style reminiscent of Jackie Collins, author of Hollywood Wives. Murray’s characters are complete and come with their own flaws and lapses in judgment. None of these characters are perfect much like in Hollywood itself. Murray’s characters evoke emotions of love/hate with the reader and even that ugly feeling revengefulness comes through when a few of the characters really overstep the bounds of a so-called friendship.
A Chance to Say Yes was a delightful read and I enjoyed the characters and their flaws. Sometimes, it takes characters to have their eyes opened to see the mess they have made of their lives. Murray, takes us on a roller coaster ride of emotions and plots. Her multiple plots and numerous characters are carried out flawlessly. Even though the main characters end the story on a “Life Happily Ever After” there are still a few loose end that open up the novel for Murray’s sequel of A Wild Dream of Love.
